Sensei Tony Hails 6th Dan is a silver dojo (Level 2) accredited instructor with the Australian Sports Commission, one of only a handful of coaches in Australia to have reaSensei Tony - kamaeched this level. He has also commenced studying for gold level accreditation.

Sensei Tony is currently the National Kumite Mentor coach for the Fijian Karate Federation, a role he relishes and thoroughly enjoys. He was previously the Australian National Technical or Mentor coach for 8 years, which included coaching at 3 World Championships (he also competed at 4 World Championships, his best result being 4th place in Sydney 1984).

Sensei Tony Hails commenced his Karate career in 1975. He trained for five years in England with Ishinryu Karate's founder, Sensei Ticky Donovan OBE 9th Dan. In 1980 Sensei Tony emigrated to Australia, becoming the founder and chief instructor of Ishinryu Karate in Australia.tony and wayne

Sensei Tony was a formidable competition athlete. He represented England from 1978 - 80 and competed in the Grand Slam International Championship in which he was runner up. Arriving in Australia in 1980, he later won 7 AKF National titles. He was the dominant fighter of the '80's and represented at 4 World Championships (placing 4th in individual and team in 1986). He also won dual gold (team and individual) at the 1989 Asian Pacific Championships, both times beating Japanese opponents in the final.

Sensei Tony has represented Australia for seven years. He was the captain of the Australian team for four years and also captain/coach of New South Wales.

After an extremely successful competition career Sensei Tony directed his skills towards coaching students from Ishinryu and other styles to state, national and international representation and success. He was a National Kumite Coach (1999 - 2008), and also held national positions throughout the early 90's. He has coached at three recent senior World Championships including the November 2008 championships in Japan. Since 2008 he has also been assisting the elite athletes of the Fijian Karate Federation.

§      Represented in college and school rugby (England), long distance cross country running (SE England schoolboy representative), judo, boxing and soccer prior to finding his niche in karate.

Tony  still enjoys medium to long distance running on a regular basis. Has competed in full contact, semi contact and non-contact karate competitions.

History with other styles:Sensei Tony regularly travels throughout Australia, Europe and Canada as an instructor on major training courses. These courses include instructors from Ishinryu and also from Shotokan along with practitioners of other martial arts. For 12 years Ishinryu Karate Australia (Sydney) have hosted an annual Summer Course, with instructors and participants from many styles including Shotokan, Goju Ryu, Shitoryu and Budokan.
